{"id":7392,"date":"2023-09-07T13:05:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-07T11:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valencia.elemultisite.eleusal.com\/?p=7392"},"modified":"2023-09-07T13:05:00","modified_gmt":"2023-09-07T11:05:00","slug":"albacete-fair-somewhere-in-la-mancha","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/valencia.eleusal.com\/en\/albacete-fair-somewhere-in-la-mancha\/","title":{"rendered":"Albacete Fair, somewhere in la Mancha&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The 7th of September is remembered in Spain for the song by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=P7fKL9oyxxg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mecano, whose name is precisely that, &#8220;El 7 de septiembre&#8221;.<\/a> But also because it is the start of Albacete&#8217;s most important festival, its fair, which for ten days attracts thousands of people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-secundario\" style=\"text-align: justify\">The event started life as a cattle fair, but evolved over time to become <strong>a festivity with immense popular participation.<\/strong> It is performed in honour of the <strong>Virgen de los Llanos<\/strong> and has a varied programme: concerts, theatre, popular dancing, activities for children, parades, bullfights, sporting competitions&#8230; The celebrations start off with two events: the proclamation of the queen of the festivities (known as the \u201cManchega of honour\u201d) and the Inaugural Parade, a colourful procession of floats featuring numerous clubs and associations, accompanied by typical brass bands and groups of musicians, and people attired in the traditional folk costume of La Mancha. This great parade may last several hours. Another emblematic act is the floral offering to the patron saint.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The festive atmosphere is centred around the fairground and the nearby area. Because of its peculiar shape, this area is known as the redondeles (the circles) or the frying pan. It was laid out in the 18th century, and consists of three concentric circles and a lengthwise walkway which provides access. In the centre of the frying pan is a charming Modernist pavilion, and in the various rings there are all kinds of stands selling food and drink, traditional handcrafts from Albacete, toys, clothes, costume jewellery\u2026 The stands remain open all day through to the small hours of the morning, and many of them serve cider with <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Miguelitos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>\u201cmiguelitos\u201d<\/strong><\/a>, a typical local sweet which is absolutely delicious. There are more stands and stalls in the area outside the fairground, as well as the music tents where the concerts are held.
